If your husky has been stretching or itching a lot you might want to know why and if there is anything you can do about it.
In this post, I will show you a number of reasons why it might be doing it and what you can do about it.
So, why does my husky keep stretching? Possible reasons are that it is tired, it needs more exercise, illness, injury or that it simply likes the feeling.
There are actually many reasons why it might be doing it and it could be a combination of multiple reasons. However, there are also a number of things you can consider when
Why your husky keeps stretching
Each of the different reasons why your husky does it will likely come with a number of clues.
Below are a number of possible causes and what would make them more likely.
Tiredness
It is not uncommon for dogs to stretch more when they are tired or when they have just woken up. If your husky tends to stretch more just before going to sleep or when waking up it would be likely to be for those reasons.
It needs more exercise
Huskies are a breed that requires a lot of exercise on a daily basis to be fully stimulated. It could be the case that your husky has been stretching a lot because its muscles ache due to not getting enough exercise.
It is normally recommended for a healthy adult Siberian husky to get at least an hour of exercise daily. If your husky has not been getting that much exercise it would help to make sure that it does.
Illness or injury
It could be the case that it has gotten ill or injured which would be more likely if your husky has started doing it suddenly and if it has been showing other signs of being ill or injured such as by being fatigued. If it does seem like it might be ill or injured the best option would be to get a vet to look at it.
It simply likes the feeling
It is not uncommon for huskies to stretch a lot and stretching is not usually a cause for alarm. The reason why your husky has been stretching a lot could simply be that it likes the feeling.
Things to consider
When it first started doing it
It would help to consider when your husky first started doing it since it could be the case that there was an event that caused it to start doing it.
If it started doing it suddenly it would make it more likely to be due to things such as getting ill or injured, getting less exercise or a sudden change in its daily schedule. It would help to consider if anything else changed when it started doing it.
Whereas, if it has always stretched a lot then it would be more likely that it is because it likes the feeling or because it likes to stretch its muscles when it has just woken up.
When it does it more
It would also help to consider the timing of when your husky does it since it could be the case that the timing has something to do with it.
If it does it more at certain times then it would be more likely to be due to things such as being tired or just having woken up.
What to do about your husky stretching a lot
Below are a number of options you have when getting your husky to stop stretching a lot.
Take it to a vet
If you can’t figure out why your husky has been doing it or it has started doing it a lot suddenly then it would help to get a vet to check up on it. By doing so you will be able to rule out the possibility of it being ill or injured and to get expert advice tailored towards your particular husky.
Nothing
It is not uncommon for healthy dogs to stretch often. Most of the time stretching is not something to be concerned about. Unless your husky is doing it constantly or it has been showing signs of illness or injury then it would be likely to be normal behavior.
Give it exercise
If your husky is healthy and it has not been getting much exercise then it would help to start making sure that it does. You can exercise it either by giving it exercise yourself or you could get a dog walker to do it for you if you don’t have the time.
