Does my husky love me? (12 Signs)

If you’re wondering whether or not your husky loves you, this post will show you a number of ways that you can tell and what you can do to get it to love you more.

So, does my husky love me? Common ways that huskies will show their love for you will include wagging their tails when you come home, bringing you things, looking to you for direction or making eye contact with you.

There are actually many ways that a husky will show its love for you and I will show you 13 of them below.

Ways that your husky could show that it loves you

It follows your orders

One way that your husky will show that it loves you is by listening to you when you tell it what to do. If it does follow your orders it shows that it trusts you, sees you as its leader and believes that listening to you will be beneficial for it.

If you have not trained your husky much then it would be much less likely to listen to you. However, you could fix this by giving it lots of positive reinforcement training. I have written about how you can use positive reinforcement training to get it to come in this post.

It protects you and your home

If your husky becomes protective when there are people it does not know around its home then that would also be a sign that it loves you. This is because it would show that it believes you will protect it and that it wants to alert you to danger.

It noses you

One way that dogs will show their love is by “nosing” this is where they put their noses against their owners to sniff them. This shows love because it shows that they want to know where their owner has been and that their owner is ok.

It makes eye contact with you

When your dog looks at you in the eyes it releases Oxytocin which is a hormone that promotes bonding (source). This means that, if your husky regularly makes eye contact with you, it would be a sign that it loves you.

It puts itself into vulnerable positions

If your husky regularly puts itself into vulnerable positions around you such as by getting you to rub its belly or sleeping on its back it would be a sign that it trusts you and that it feels secure around you.

It licks you

Dogs will lick each other in order to help groom them and they will sometimes lick when they are being submissive. If your husky often licks you then it would be a sign that it trusts you and that it sees you as the one that is in control.

It gets excited when you come home

Another way your husky might show affection towards you is by getting excited when it sees you after you have been away. If it did not love you then it would not get excited when you come home so getting excited would be a strong sign that it does love you.

It leans on you

If your husky leans on you sometimes it would be a sign that it loves you since it shows that it trusts you not to let it fall down. It would also suggest that it feels more comfortable when it is around you.

If it does lean on you I have written more about why it might be doing it here.

It doesn’t hide from you

If your husky doesn’t try and hide from you when you are around even that would be a sign that it loves you. This is because it suggests that it trusts you and it does not feel unsafe around you.

It keeps pace with you on walks

One way that your husky will show that it loves you is by keeping up with you on walks. If your husky did not love you then it would not be willing to keep pace with you especially when off the leash since it would not trust you and it would not be interested in being near you.

However, if it does not keep pace with you, this would not necessarily mean that it does not love you. It is not uncommon for huskies to pull on the leash a lot on walks.

It brings things to you

Another sign your husky loves you would be if it often brings things to you. This is because it shows that it considers you as a member of its pack and that it wants to show that it cares about you.

It follows you around

If your husky also follows you around a lot it would also be a sign that it loves you. If it did not trust you then it would not want to stay near you and following you around suggests that you will be able to make it happy.

Things to consider

Below are some things you can consider when trying to figure out whether or not your husky loves you.

Not showing signs of affection doesn’t mean that it doesn’t love you

If your husky does not show many signs of affection around you it does not necessarily mean that it does not love you. There many reasons why your husky might not been showing affection around you and I have written about many of them in this blog post.

If it stopped showing affection suddenly

It would also help to consider whether or not your husky suddenly stopped being affectionate around you. If it did then it would suggest that there was an event that caused it to stop and it would help to consider what else happened when it stopped being affectionate.

How to get your husky to love you more

Below are some options you have when getting your husky to love you more. You will likely find that using a combination of them will work best.

Give it exercise

Huskies are a breed that is meant to get a lot of exercise on a daily basis. When they don’t get enough exercise it can cause them to start behaving abnormally and to develop health issues.

Generally, it is recommended for them to get at least an hour of exercise per day. If your husky is not getting that much it would help to make sure that it does. You can do so by walking it yourself or by getting it a dog walker to do it for you when you cannot.

Feed it right

It is also important to make sure that your husky is eating the right amount of food and the right type of food. Generally, it is recommended for Siberian huskies to get between 860 and 1290 calories daily but it would help to confirm this with your vet. You can also look here to see what you should be feeding it.

Take it for yearly checkups

It is also important to make sure that your husky stays healthy by taking it for yearly checkups. By doing so you will be able to spot health issues early on and to take preventative action in the early stages.

Give it training

Siberian huskies were bred to work alongside their owners for hours on a daily basis. As a result of this, they will naturally look to their owners for direction. This is why it is important to give your husky lots of training. It also helps to keep it stimulated and well behaved.

Avoid punishing it

It might be tempting to punish your husky when it misbehaves but you should avoid doing so. If you punish your husky when it misbehaves it might not understand why it is being punished and it could lead to feelings of resentment. Instead, it would help to give it lots of positive reinforcement training so that it learns how to behave in a more enjoyable way.
